Andrés Mignucci FAIA has been awarded the 2022 GOLD MEDAL AWARD by the American Institute of Architects-Puerto Rico for an exemplary design practice and teaching career spanning over four decades, Andrés Mignucci FAIA has advanced the architectural profession through design, teaching, research, scholarship, and public service.

I awarding the Gold Medal, the jury wrote the following: “We were all unanimous in agreeing that Andrés Mignucci FAIA is richly deserving of this honor as his career exemplifies what the AIA should stand for — a lifetime of outstanding achievement in design, service to the community and mentoring and educating the next generation. We were deeply honored and inspired by reviewing his application and could not agree more that this individual is the perfect person to receive the American Institute of Architect - Puerto Rico’s first ever AIA Gold Award. Congratulations and thank you for setting an example for us all."

Lin-Manuel Miranda & Andrés Mignucci: Old San Juan by Andres Mignucci

Playwright and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and architect Andrés Mignucci explore the plazas and streets of Old San Juan, the 500-year old capital of Puerto Rico. Joined by Andy Rivera of the Puerto Rico Historic Building Drawing Society, the short film was produced as part of the Discover Puerto Rico series tourism initiative.

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture / ACSA has announced that Puerto Rican architect, urbanist, and educator Andrés Mignucci of the University of Puerto Rico, is one of this year’s Distinguished Professor Award laureates.

Each year, ACSA honors architectural educators for exemplary work in areas such as teaching, building design, community collaborations, scholarship, and service. Award winners inspire and challenge students, contribute to the profession’s knowledge base, and extend their work beyond the borders of academy into practice and the public sector.

Andrés Mignucci joins Thomas Barrie of North Carolina State University, Thomas Fischer of the University of Minnesota, Patricia Oliver of the University of Houston, Stephen Schreiber of the University of Massachusetts Amherst as 2019 Distinguished Professors, and Toshiko Mori, former Chair of Harvard‘s Graduate School of Design as Topaz Medallion Laureate.

The award ceremony will take place on March 29 during ACSA’s Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh. As one of the 2019 ACSA Distinguished Professor recipients, Mignucci will join a group of notable educators - The College of Distinguished Professors, one of the highest honors the ACSA can bestow upon an educator.


Andrés Mignucci selected by the Rockefeller Foundation as 2019 Bellagio Center Scholar-in-Residence by Andres Mignucci

Puerto Rican architect, urbanist, and educator Andrés Mignucci has been selected as a Rockefeller Foundation Arts and Literary Arts Scholar in Residence at the Bellagio Center in Lake Como, Italy.

Now in its 58th year, the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center supports the work of scholars, artists, thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners who share in the Foundation’s pioneering mission to “promote the well-being of humanity around the world.” The Residency Program provides the opportunity for focused work while inspiring new and expansive thinking from world leaders selected for their compelling individual work and significant accomplishments within their field.

Mignucci’s research project titled “Common Ground: Public Space and the Resilient City” examines the changing role of public space in times of environmental crisis and how the various qualities, design, programming, and performance of public space contribute to the formulation of resilient neighborhoods and cities.
